Facelift

What is a facelift?

A facelift aims to give the face and neck a more youthful appearance. The operation performed is to excise the excess skin and fat, while tightening certain sagging muscles. By definition the traditional facelift is designed to rejuvenate the face in the areas of the temples, cheeks and neck. The facelift can often be accompanied with a forehead lift, eyebrow lift or a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).

Who is a candidate?

There are several types of surgeries for the face that will help turn back the hands of time. The facelift procedure is aimed at treating the sagging skin and muscles of the face (forehead, eyebrows, cheeks, jowls, jaw line) and neck. The purpose of such an intervention is not to change the shape and appearance of the face, but to restore the anatomical structures (skin, muscle and fat). The ideal candidate must have good skin elasticity and good bone structure.

Procedure

Facial, neck tissue and muscle may be seperated; fat may be trimmed or suctioned and underlying muscle may be tightened. In general the skin is seperated from the fat and the muscle below. Fat may be trimmed around the neck and chin to improve the contour. The underlying muscle and membrane are then tightened, pulling the skin back, and removing the excess.

Anesthesia

Dr. Zadeh performs facelifts under general or local anesthesia depending on the complexity of the procedure.

Post Operative & Healing

Following surgery, a small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin behind your ear to drain any blood that may accumulate. Your head may be wrapped loosely in bandages to minimize bruising and swelling. Discomfort or pain can be lessened with the prescription of pain medication given by Dr. Zadeh. If a drainage tube has been inserted, it will be removed one or two days after surgery. Bandages will also be removed during your follow up appointment.  Most of the scars will be hidden within your hair and in the normal creases of your skin. You will be given more specific, individualized guidelines for gradually resuming your daily activities. IPL treatments may be prescribed by Dr. Zadeh to soften the scars or any sign of redness that may appear.
