Gynecomastia
What is gynecomastia?
This is a plastic surgery that corrects the breasts of a man that has abnormal growth of mammary glands. Gynecomastia is often observed during puberty, but may disappear naturally without the need for surgery. When this anomaly occurs before puberty or in adulthood, deeper examination will be done to rule out various diseases such as obesity, testicular cancer, a hormonal problem or a breast tumour. Only after determined the cause can surgery be performed. |

Who is a candidate?
Candidates for a gynecomastia are men or teenage boys in good physical health, wanting a better definition and contour of their chest. In some cases it may be men who live with side effects of having taken steroids or drugs. A consultation with Dr. Zadeh is required to determine if this procedure is the right choice for you to achieve the desired results. |

Procedure
The appropriate surgical approach will depend on the degree of gynecomastia, which will be determined by Dr. Zadeh. A chest with fatty material can be treated through liposuction, while a chest with fibrous material will require a resection of residual glandular tissue, by making incisions in the areola.

Post Operative & Healing
A few days after surgery, the patient usually is able to move without pain. It is recommended by Dr. Teanoosh Zadeh to wear a compression garment for several weeks or until swelling and bruising has reduced. The incisions will remain red for several months and Dr. Zadeh may prescribe IPL treatments to help make the scars less noticeable. Depending on the extent of the surgery, it is usually possible to return to work within 2 weeks. |
