What is abdominoplasty?

Surgery of the abdomen, also called a tummy tuck is the solution recommended by Dr. Teanoosh Zadeh for anyone with a stomach presenting excess loose skin. It allows the strengthening and flattening of the stomach.

Who is a candidate?

Abdominoplasty is recommended for those with a significant relaxation of the abdomen. For women who, after one or numerous pregnancies who want to correct unsightly stretch marks orloose skin. For men, an abdominoplasty may be necessary after significant weight loss to correct the excess skin and fat.

Procedure

When Dr. Zadeh performs an abdominoplasty, he aims to correct the damaged skin and tighten the healthy skin peripherally. The technique of surgery of the abdomen most often is to make an excision of a large section of the skin between the umbilicus and the pubis. Healthy skin located above the navel will be redraped down, so as to reconstitute an abdominal wall. Dr. Zadeh keeps the umbilicus and replaces it in its rightful place. Usually the scar is located on the top edge of the pubic area and extends more or less in the folds of the groin. During the pre operative consultation, Dr. Zadeh will discuss with you the options that are available to optimize the positioning of the scar. Drains are put in place for drainage.

Anesthesia

Dr. Zadeh performs an abdominoplasty procedure under general anaesthesia for patient safety.

Risks

Complications following plastic surgery of the abdomen may occur and are explained by Dr. Zadeh at the initial consultation.

Drains will be removed during the follow up appointment with Dr. Zadeh, five to seven days after surgery. Bandages applied after the procedure, are to be kept on for two weeks. After two weeks, a compression garment is to be worn for one month to reduce swelling, maintain muscle repair and to drape the skin. The scar following the intervention remains pink for two to three months and gradually fades over the next three years. IPL treatments can significantly help reduce the scar.
